“I hurt whenever I move so I just don’t want to!”

How many times have you said this to yourself? Probably every day if you suffer from inflammation of your joints, including Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis, Gout, Psoriasis, Fibromyalgia, IBS Lupus, Osteoporosis. Or you may experience pain from having a joint replacement.

I understand, because I too have Rheumatoid Arthritis and degenerating disks in my back. I’ve also had the misfortune to suffer debilitating injuries that left me unable to walk and recovery was a very long road. The thought of leaving the house was daunting. So I started by moving my body a little bit every day…baby steps…in the comfort of my own home.

Because of my own injuries and achiness, I’ve become extremely passionate about helping those who don’t think that movement is possible or don’t think their range of motion and quality of life can get any better.

• I believe everyone should move every day.

• I believe that gentle movement of our bodies will lead to a better quality of life

• I believe that movement makes us pain free and happier.

What better way to start moving than in the comfort of your own home, or to compliment your studio classes with a home on-line Yoga for Arthritis practice? As a yoga therapist I’ve had the opportunity to work with countless clients and the results are amazing. Gently moving the joints and creating a safe space for you to connect with your body will bring you ease of movement and yes, reduce pain and inflammation!!! AND I’m inviting you to be one of the first to experience the transformative effects.

This course will give you better range of motion, confidence and strategies for pain management and relaxation, including breathing techniques and an understanding of arthritis and what happens in the body when you’re stressed.

You’ll get:

• An understanding of arthritis and what happens in the body when you’re stressed

• Breathing techniques (pranayama) to create breath awareness and reduce stress and inflammation

• Meditation practices you can do outside of any practice

• Video lessons on safe movement yoga (asana) practices you can alternate and do daily, including how to safely get to the floor and back up, core stability and strengthening, upper body practices, standing practices and happy feet, our foundation!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Can I do this course even if I can’t move very well?

Yes! This course is suitable for all levels, including those with limited mobility.

If I don't have Arthritis, can I still take this class as it's gentle on my joints?

Yes, this class is meant to incorporate gentle movement into the body, so will benefit anyone who wants an alternative to more traditional classes. Those with joint replacements, or recovering from injuries would also benefit.

Can Yoga for Arthritis help with Pain?

Absolutely! Regular yoga practice can help reduce joint pain, improve joint flexibility and function and lower stress and tension. So the good news is, absolutely yoga helps with inflammation, stress, arthritis and pain management. Even starting with once a week with a simple yoga practice is great!

What is Arthritis?

There are many types of Arthritis, but generally it is characterized by pain and stiffness in joints throughout the body. You may also hear the words inflammation associated with arthritis. The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, caused by wear and tear on the joints; rheumatoid arthritis, meanwhile, is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's own immune system attacks joints. But you may be surprised to learn that other disorders like IBS, Fibromyalgia, Psoriasis, Osteoporosis, Lupus (to name a few) are other presenters of inflammation that would also benefit from safe, gentle movement.

How does yoga help?

Most arthritic joints benefit from regular, low-impact exercise, which can decrease pain and improve mobility. Yoga is an ideal choice since in addition to its physical benefits it emphasizes working with your body as it presents itself on any given day without judgment. Yoga also reduces stress, fosters mental calmness, and teaches students coping techniques, such as breathing exercises, which may help manage pain and depression.

How to start a yoga practice if you have arthritis?

It can be a bit scary trying something you've never done before, or that fear of moving the wrong way when you're already in pain can also be daunting. Consult with your doctor first to make sure you are ready to begin exploring your body. It is advisable to start yoga with a yoga therapist for a private consultation, or specialty workshop or class aligned with the diagnosis in mind. The Yoga for Arthritis Workshop by Yoga Therapist RYT500 Tracy Roberge is designed to offer you modifications to poses and situations when necessary, and to safely get you feeling better gently.

What our customers are saying

I greatly appreciate Tracy's knowledge, skills and teaching style. While most instructor check to make sure you are generally doing the correct poses, no one has ever taken the time to finesse poses to optimize benefits and minimize injuries. I have left many OTHER yoga classes with little feedback, little benefit and back strain so I am grateful for Tracy's dedication and expertise. Each class is different with a variety of poses (with and without props). She is also able to teach to different levels within the same class and challenge all participants.
